OBB NightJet trains are a good long-distance option offering seats or sleepers, using traditional international European trains. From Frankfurt, trains run south to Austria and beyond.

Air from Hahn Airport, a key Ryanair hub
Zell-Mosel is a short bus ride (#750, 35 minutes every 2 hours, approximate 7-8 Euro) from one of Europe's leading low-cost airports and a major hub for Ryanair.
Officially named Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, Hahn is one of Germany's top-10 busiest with flights all over the Continent - but not many to points within 1000 km.
If you're looking for a flight south, consider the Canary Islands, Morocco, Spain, Portugal, south of France, Majorca, Italy or Greece.
Northbound are flights to Finland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic States.
Looking east you can go to Poland, Budapest on Wizzair and Croatia. We like the midnight flight to Transylvania, 3 x a week with Wizzair
To UK you can choose Edinburgh or London.
To Eire choose Dublin or Kerry.
Love them or not, Ryanair offers the best bargains and leaving your big luggage at Base you can travel freely with just a cabin bag.
Frankfurt International is just over 2 hours by train. Koln-Bonn Airport is a little further. Also within reach are Luxembourg and Saarbrucken Airports.
